As I count down the days to a well-deserved Christmas break, I find myself reflecting on the many Quantity Surveyors—real people—we’ve helped transition into new consultancy roles this year.
“Real People”
You might wonder, “Daniel, what do you mean by ‘real people’?”
There’s a common perception that recruitment consultants prioritize fees over candidates, treating individuals as mere pound signs.
Let me assure you, that’s not how I work. To me, every Quantity Surveyor I speak with is a person with a unique story, a set of goals, and a desire for happiness. My role is to help them achieve those goals, improve their quality of life, and find fulfilment in their careers.
A True Partnership
This process is a partnership, one that succeeds only when we work together toward the same goal. It’s a journey—often an emotional roller coaster—filled with ups and downs, but the end result is worth every moment.
When someone tells me I’ve changed their life, the feeling is indescribable. It’s like seeing your children’s faces light up on Christmas morning, realizing Santa has been—pure joy and goosebumps.
Is It Really “Life Changing”?
It might sound like an exaggeration, but think about it:
If these examples don’t qualify as life changing, then I’ll stand corrected.
The Market in 2023
“How’s the market?” is the second most popular question I hear (right after, “Do you have an MRICS Quantity Surveyor?”).
Despite political uncertainties, my answer has remained consistent: it’s business as usual.
This year has been a record-breaking one. Even in March, amidst Brexit uncertainty, our Quantity Surveying division achieved its highest performance. As we approach Christmas, I’m still receiving new requirements and interview requests—a testament to the resilience and growth of the industry.
Final Thoughts
Helping people achieve their goals is more than just a job—it’s a privilege. As we close out the year, I look forward to continuing this journey, one QS at a time.
Happy holidays!
